Idea’s for a bride’s ‘something blue’

14 Sep Idea’s for a bride’s ‘something blue’

‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue’ - this rhyme originated as a symbolic way for a bride to link her previous life with her new one, with the inclusion of ‘something blue’ to show a sign of purity. These days wearing ‘something blue’ is an elegant and fun way of adding a pop of colour to your bridal outfit. Here we show some alternative ideas to capturing ‘something blue’ in your outfit.

1) Decorating the Back.

We love this delicate chain decorating the back with a hanging blue charm off the end - perfect if you have a high neck wedding dress with a low back.

2) Blue Soles or Shoes.

Paint the bottom of your shoes blue with this DIY tutorial or clip on a pretty blue shoe clip. Wear bright blue sparkly shoes to add a pop of colour and shine, ready for the dance floor.

3) Bridal Lace Cuffs.

Accessorise your arms with pretty lace cuffs if you are wearing a short sleeve or strapless wedding dress.

4) Blue Peony Bouquet or Blue Flowers.

Now blue peonies don’t actually exist so the trick here is to cut the stems of white peonies and dip them into water mixed with blue food colouring to achieve this effect. Other classic blue flowers in a bouquet include bluebonnets and blue thistle or why not try pinning a blue broach onto your bouquet?

5) In the Hair.

There are so many ways to include something blue in the hair from beaded hair pieces to fascinators to a blue veil even! For a more subtle touch, gather curled hair to one side with a jewelled hair clip.

6) In the Dress.

A pretty way to include highlights of blue in the ruffles of a wedding dress or go all out with this stunning pastel blue dress.

7) On the Nails.

Paint your nails blue if you can’t add any blue to your accessories. Keep the look sophisticated with a navy blue matte nail polish or paint one tiny blue heart onto one of your nails.

8) Blue Sunglasses.

A fun way to enter the aisle, cool chick style. Personalise the sides of your glasses with your special date or message.

9) Druzy Blue Jewellery.

We love this emerging trend of unique Druzy jewellery, which fits nicely into a boho luxe wedding outfit.

10) And the…Garter!

We couldn’t forget the classic go-to ‘something blue’ item for those who want to hide their blue item under their dress to be found later!
